Rabbit's Race by Ethan Testerman

I want to watch you run and race,

Jump and chase

this feeling you cling to.

“how i wish i could leave you!”

Weave through the fields

and dart into the leaves.

Only God knows we’re here,

Feared enough to feed.

Thrilling, this one is,

to be so desperately cunning.

Pleading, just as they have,

always, always running.

Crack.

Tumble.

Fold.

Oh, I see that you’re hurt.

I can drop the rhyme, the reason, and the thought.

You’ve never been worth this much effort,

“I’ve won; thus you’ve lost.”

My spoils trophied by the forest floor,

I’m sorry, little one,

even a Rabbit can twist an ankle.
